Whilst fear can be a protective emotion that keeps us safe from harm, it can get out of hand and become a phobia……that is to say an irrational fear.
If it reaches this stage it can have an overwhelming and detrimental effect on a sufferer’s life.
The symptoms of phobia, which can include:-
- Shortness of breath
- Dizziness or a sense of unreality
- Nausea
- Fear of dying
Can not only occur by exposure to the situation or object of fear….. but also by just the thought of the object or situation.
Fears and phobias sometimes stem from periods in our lives when we were more open to suggestion e.g. in childhood.
This irrational behaviour has carried through to adulthood because your sub-conscious mind still believes it is protecting you from this perceived threat.
Some people may laugh at your phobia and say how silly you are ...
